Does anyone have a recipe for a chocolate cake that can be made into a 3D purse. The purse needs to stand on it's own.

Did you find a recipe yet? I use a recipe from Cake Mix Doctor. I don't have my book handy, but it's towards the back, and I believe the recipe is called Basic Yellow Pound Cake. I use chocolate cake mix and chocolate pudding instead of yellow. Tastes good and works well.

My Ipod is giving me problems so I can't cut and paste, but go to epicurious.com and type Double Chocolate Layer Cake into the search box. That recipe is suitable for carving and delicious to boot.
