I am making chocolate covered strawberries tomorrow and I need some help. Every recipe I see has a difference ingredient. . some say to use just melted chocolate and nothing else and others say to add shortening, or butter or oil etc to the chocolate.

What should i do?? Is one way "better" than the other?

Thanks!

You only need to add oil if your chocolate is too thick. It might be thick if you use chocolate chips. I usually use Ghirardelli chocolate for candy dipping and simply melt the chocolate then dip. Turns out beautifully.

I use just melted chocolate. It makes a nice hard solid shell. I have used a ganache type chocolate, I think it is ShirleyW's recipe. It was very good, but doesn't set up solid. Just depends on the results you are looking for.

Hope this helps,

Susan

When I did it, I just used melted candy melts, and I didn't add anything to them.

I also just use candy melts. If you use chocolate chips, it will not dry hard. Candy melts set up and give a perfect finish!
