Will the blocks be cake or hallow gumpaste pieces?

Simply model the paste with your fingers until you get the shape. I also press my smoother against the sides. Give it a go its easy x

Here's what I do.

Roll out my paste on a grid mat (it has 1" squares and measurements along the edge) quilters use them. Here's the exact one I own.

I use a ruler and cut out perfect squares and allow them to day.

Once they're dry you can put them together with some gumpaste glue which is just some gumpaste dissolved in water to form a glue.

Allow to dry and you're ready to decorate them with cutouts or however you want.
