A friend wants a cowboy theme smash cake in buttercream for her 1 year old's birthday. We've been looking at the red bandana cakes which are really cute.

Does the red stain badly? Is this a good idea for a 1 year old?

It all comes off with a good washing, if not that day, overnight. icon_smile.gif I've never had a problem with it coming out of clothing either...of course, I probably wouldn't put the birthday boy in white either... icon_wink.gif

Ugh, red. It will be everywhere. It does wash out with a good pretreat and a little bleach.

What about another color bandana like yellow?

All that red food coloring may make other things that come out of her red too.

I would not recommend blue...or green.....had a 'situation' like that once with my oldest after he consumed a piece of a grocery store CCC... icon_wink.gif Yet another reason they belong on Cake Wrecks! icon_lol.gif

My child was stained for a couple of days. My good friend owns a bakery, he made my daughters 1st birthday cake & smash cake. Smash cake was chocolate cake with vanilla whipped icing. And color splashes going all the way around in every color imaginable you can buy coloring daughter was stained soooooooo bad! He got a big kick out of it.

Not sure exactly what design you had in mind, but could you ice the cake in white and then use red fondant for the bandana? The fondant shouldn't stain as bad, and can be taken off if they don't want him to have any of the red.
