Doing my first 3D dog this week! I am normally fairly sure I can handle things, but this one has me worried! I tried to carve a foam head and I'm about to start covering. the rest shouldn't be terrible if I can get the head. anyone else make dogs a lot and have any advice?

I love to make dogs!!! I make the head out of rice krispy treats usually or I make the dog lying down, depending on what the customer wants (I charge more if the head is up!).

Do you have specific questions? Make sure when you cover the head that if you have to seam the fondant that its under the chin or in a place hard to see. You can blend it in when marking the fondant in "fur" with a toothpick or whatever you use...or add a collar or something.

I use lots of buttercream under the fondant in the head, that way I can push in the eye sockets for the eyes and make any kinds of slight wrinkles above the eyes or nose for facial details. Refrigerating the buttercream iced cake before adding fondant will help ALOT.

Have fun!
