Help! I made a batch of hard candy suckers and flavored them with LorAnn strawberry flavoring oil. Standard recipe, 1 dram (1tsp) of oil as per recipe. I wrapped them in cellophane bags and they looked so cute. I tasted a sample right after they were done and they were great. Two days later I tried a sucker and it tasted HORRIBLE like cough syrup with alcohol flavor. Has anyone ever had this problem? Could it have been the bags I used? I used a candy chef food color to tint. LorAnn doesn't have alcohol in thier oils so am not sure what to think.

Hey, sorry to hear that happened. I don't use cellophane bags over my suckers. Maybe that is the problem. I have the mini plastic bags for suckers. I use Lorraine flavorings all the time. Good luck!

I think it was the cellophane. I think reacted with the flavoring oils and left a chemical taste. I'm going to make them again and will use the plastic sucker bags instead.
