Smoothing Out Seams In Fondant/ Modeling Chocolate

Hello there I am new to CC. When I have used fondant or Modeling choc in the past I have always just "made in work" when smoothing out the seams/joints. Any suggestions about the "easier/correct" way to accomplishing this? Thanks!
