So there is probably a pretty obvious answer to this question, but I'm in the process of making my first cake for someone other than my family, and I want to make sure to get everything right...

I'm making a tiered cake with fondant stripes up the sides and pearls along the borders. When I attach the pearls over top of the stripes the pearls go up and down over each stripe making the border look all uneven.

What is the best way to go about making it all even? Should I cut the fondant a little bit short to leave space for the pearls? Should I roll the fondant stripes out really thin or should I do something completely different?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Personally, I'd cut the fondant a little bit short to leave space for the pearls.
