I did a rocky balboa for my nephew and used very large and thick sucker sticks that I bought at my local cake and candy supply store and wrapped in string licorice for ropes. I had help from joycestastycakes.com who found me a great picture of rocky that she made into an edible image for me and I used that on top of the ring and added a couple of boxes. You could also use ribbon for the ropes. good luck.

I made one and I used straws covered in fondant as the ring posts and licorice as the ropes. I didn't have it out a long time bcuz I finished it right before the party so I dont know if it will last more than an hour or so.

I used lollipop sticks and plastic canvas yarn. Worked great.
