I'm new at cake baking and decorating,and I would like to know, what's in the syrup some people use to moisten the cakes with..what is it made out of?

How do you apply it to the cake? Pastry brush? Spray bottle?
I use a pastry brush.
When I use syrup I use a silicone basting brush, works good and is super easy to clean (syrup can make an unholy mess!)
I use a medicinal syringe. And I don't use it on all cakes either. None for my chocolate, coconut, banana, carrot, red velvet. Ah you get what I mean. My denser cakes don't ever need it, so see if your cake even needs it before you use it.
