Hello Ladies. i just tried my 1st attempt at fondant and it didnt look horrible but I found that when i was laying the fondant over the cake it started to over lap when I was smoothing it out and it made creases in the fondant. how do i get a perfect smooth finish.
I work around the top edge about an inch all the way around and then move down another inch and so on. As you are smoothing pull your fondant out and away from the cake.
Ensure your crumbcoat is thin and smooth too. I will use a hot knife to smooth mine. Also, you can use a fondant smoothing tool, but I prefer to use my hands. Make sure you take off your wedding ring or it gets caught!
