I made a 3 tier bridal shower cake iced in buttercream with fondant accents, I kept getting air pockets in the top tier. Does any one knows what causes this?

Frequently it's because you didn't press the icing on (at least the crumb coat) firmly enough.

I also get air pockets between the layers on my cakes... buttercream and fondant. Don't know why.
