I need to make a cake for a boy who loves nascar racing. I am not sure I can sculpt a cake. If I do a 12 inch round and do the sides checker board is there any kind of stencil out there that would make the checker board perfect all the way around. Straight, same size squares etc. The ones I look at online look like the squares are placed after the fondant is draped. Help! need ideas.

Are you planning on doing fondant?

I did a cake last week with checkerboards (in my photos). Bottom was a 12" dual layer covered in MMF. I did the base pink and made black fondant. Rolled it out and used a square metal Wilton cutter to cut about 40 squares. Put your first square on, then take the next above it and touch the corners. Keep repeating... one up, one down. It's way easier that you think. icon_smile.gif
