I have a big dinner dance coming up in 2 weeks, and I am clueless! They are having an 80's theme, and all I can think of is big hair and leg warmers! LOL.. But I want to get going on this, but not sure where to start. Any ideas out there??? anyone??? I have to serve around 200-225 people...

Thanks for your help!
Debbie

Saturday Night Fever theme
a disco ball
anything disco
Xanadu theme with a roller skate
E.T.
Moonstruck
Ferris Buehler's Day Off
A Christmas Story (yuck, I hate this movie, but it is popular) - do the leg lamp from the movie.

Any of the top movie themes, or combined. A VCR with a tape.

Here's one I found while looking for something else today. I thought it was pretty neat!

http://www.walyou.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/80s-Cake.jpg

Also: Atari, Goonies, leg warmers, a cassette player w/ headphones (ohhhh ipods are much better icon_smile.gif ). big teased hair, acid washed jeans, transformers, thundercats & voltron (I LOVED THEM), gi joe, mario, rainbow brite, smurfs, he man, she-ra, fragle rock, A-team (watched religiously w/ my brother), knight rider, different strokes, rubix cube, nintendo, popples (don't laugh b/c it's still at my mom's), cabbage patch dolls, glo worms, care bears, pac man, donkey kong, frogger, star wars, indiana jones, high tops & I could go on

ETA:

How could I forget: You Can't Do That on Television & Gremlins (man that FREAKED me out!) And you could incorporate KIDS Incorporated & "Fergie" icon_lol.gif
I may have been a kid in the 80s but boy do I remember them enough to hope they don't return!

These are some great ideas! All I could think of was leg warmers, but how do I make THAT into a cake! You guys rock! I love the rubicks cube! and pac-man! and all the other ideas! Now, how do I put them into one cake? hmmm I'll have to work on that! any other ideas are welcome, I know its alot of cake, and I can do basically whatever I want, either tiered or sheetcakes, so its up to me... gettin' excited!

If you do a tiered cakes, just marbleize the fondant in bright neon colors. Then make small fondant versions of a bunch of the different ideas and place them on the edges of the tiers, I think I'd put a larger rubix cube on top. This way, no carving, and you can make all the different items way ahead of time so baking time will be much less stressful.

If you search on this site you should get some ideas for stacked cakes...also on google or flickr. that way you can see what others have done and get ideas for how you want to do things icon_biggrin.gif
