I'm making my son a candyland cake and the icing is buttercream. Don't do fondant. Can I put the candy ie airheads, laffy taffy on the bc or do you thing the colors will run? I've heard that candy canes run with bc and was planning on putting them on right before we sing happy birthday.

Not sure about the taffy type candy, but I've had issues w/ things like skittles bleeding. What I would do it melt (actually just to the point it's softened not hot & melted) some chocolate or almond bark, put a dab on the back & stick it to the cake. It won't be in direct contact & it won't slide either. Go ahead & do your candycanes too. Just don't push them into the icing.
