I have been asked to make a small cake (double layer six inch round) for a wedding reception--really just a family dinner following a courthouse ceremony.
The couple does not want anything very fussy or over the top. They don't have any colors in mind, so I am thinking of sticking with mostly white with a possible pop of color.
I need to keep the cost of creating this down, because I am not even asking her for the materials (she is a friend and her husband got laid off many, many months ago). I was trying to think of something simple and quick that doesn't include fondant or gumpaste.
Anyone have any suggestions or experience with this type of request?
How about some dots and scrolls? Simple but elegant.
just saw this in the favorites gallery, I think you could do a lot with this if it was white on white with just a bit of color brushed onto the flowers. Or do the "lace" on the sides instead in the slices. This type of "lace" is reasonably easy and covers imperfections in buttercream, and white on white can be very elegant.
Thanks, everyone--great ideas!! I forgot about the cornelli (sp?) lace!!
