It floors me how different my cakes were from wedding season of 2008 to 2009. Seems like in 2008 the majority of my wedding cakes were plain white cakes (sometimes with scrolls around the cake) with a fabric ribbon around them and monogram topper. Last wedding season (May-October here) I had brides wanting lots of piping, bright colors, different shapes, whimsical, and very creative.

Is this due to the abundance of cake shows on t.v. now? I know (for my brides anyways) the Martha Stewart wedding cake book was key.
I'm hoping 2010 brings even more exciting wedding cakes. Last year was a great year for cool cakes for me. Hoping all these t.v. shows and challenges continue...

Anyone else notice a huge change?

I'm not a professional, but love to compete, etc. I always look up "trends" so I know how to go into a competition... I noticed that they are speaking of wedding cakes in tropical colors for this year: bright oranges, limes, yellow, aqua. I think that is fun as one could plan a whole theme around tropicals.
