I shipped a fondant covered 9X12X4 fondant covered book cake to NYC (from Florida) by Fedex. Cost $118. Wrapped in saran wrap put in same size box, Then out in larger box with lots of peanuts. It got there in one piece. Even the gumpaste decos stayed in please. Doable, but very expensive.
