Hi everyone, my daughter is turning 13 in 2 weeks and wants a Twilight cake. I've looked at the zillions of pictures on this site, but I have a couple of questions for any of you who have made one.

How do you get the flower right on New Moon - it is a tulip, but with frayed edges and red on the edge. Seen lots of flowers, but wondering if you all used gumpaste or fake flowers

How do you get the checkboard effect? Fondant cut into squares and laid together, or paint the black squares over white. How do you keep it looking really straight.

Edible images? Anyone have a good source?

Any great ideas would be most appreciated! Thanks

This might help with the flower;

I'm making a twilight themed cake next week (a book, not the chess board though) and I've found out a little bit of trivia, that the author didn't even want the flower has no meaning to the author, it was put there by the publishers. shhh.gif
