Hahahaha.

Got a phone call today from a woman who wanted a cake for Thursday. She didn't want to understand when I said it was short notice and in all probability we wouldn't be able to make the cake.

I then asked her what she had in mind. She said at least six or seven tiers..... it had to be big and impressive. I then asked her how many guests she was expecting, and she said around fifty.

I told her that there was no way we could make a seven tier cake for only fifty guests... it was way too few guests for a cake that size, but if she really wanted I'd make the cake but it would have about 310 servings and cost $2700, and I needed payment within the hour because I needed to start two days ago.

Her response? You'll just have to make the tiers smaller then, because I NEED seven tiers.

Sigh.

I talked her into a three-tiered cake and tacked on $100 rush fee.

Hey at least she agreed to pay you!! Not like the momzilla who sat me in her oversized 10,000 square foot mansion and said (with a straight face no less) "You don't seem to understand. I want a 6-foot cake and I do NOT want to pay for it!" icon_eek.gif Honestly, some people... icon_rolleyes.gif

What? A 7 tier would fulfill her need of wanting 50 servings. (Plus another 50, plus another 50, plus....) You should have done it and then discount it for her because she asked nicely. icon_lol.gif J/K

I have to say Mensch - I'm surprised you took the order at all and didn't tell her where to go. Your not softening are you? icon_lol.gif

Hey, you could have taken seven slices of cake, plated them, and stacked them one on top of the other, like when you're clearing the table. So you have seven tiers, with separater plates, stacked, even pre-sliced.

Oh my, sometimes I'm glad I don't have to deal with ppl. I'll just keep this as a hobby.

Yep. It's the "towering inferno" cake that's in my pix. Needless to say it wasn't 6 feet tall and I charged her up the ying yang for it! icon_twisted.gificon_lol.gif

The cake is beautiful. She needed to be charged extra just for the having the nerve to ask for it for free.....

I'm glad you were able to get her to be reasonable about her request. Did they have to revive you after their initial request? lol

Hehe that's what went through my head to tapedshut.gif

Some people are just so clueless.

I had a couple come in at the grocery store bakery I used to work for. It was about 20 minutes to closing. They wanted a cake for the next morning, for half an hour after we opened. And they wanted tiers (which we didn't do) and lots of extravagant details. It was the sort of cake that would have taken at least 6 hours, not including bake time.

When told no, they seemed to honestly not understand why I wouldn't do it. Even after explaining that I'd have to start that moment and work through the night to get it done by their time frame. I was told "But isn't that your job??" Eh, no.

haha.

When she picked up the cake she was irritated because it wasn't seven tiers. Sheesh. I had explained and explained and explained on the phone, and she had said it was okay with three. Then She said that I should have made it larger because they were expecting 40 additional guests than the number she gave me. Um..... sorry lady, not a mind-reader.

Blah.

yeah, I got paid.

It just cracked me up when she was mad because I didn't make a larger cake because they had forty extra guests.

Like I'm a mind reader!

When she started in on that my employee made a beeline for the back and I could see her out of the corner of my eye, doubled over behind a shelf laughing silently.
