I have the Wilton gumpaste, and the problem I'm having is keeping the unused portion soft enough for later use.

I cover it with shortening and cover it in plastic wrap then store in a ziploc bag at room temperature.

Is there a better way to store it that maximizes shelf life? Would it be better to store it in the fridge? Does homemade gumpaste tend to last longer?

Thanks for any tips!
