OK..here goes. I was asked to do a chocolate cake for a sister in my chruch for her birthday, and at that same time i decided to do a suprise cake for another sister in the church who celebrated her birthday at the same time.
So i made the two cakes both of them chocolate from the same batter/recipe and gave them to the ladies. The sister who i did the suprise/free cake for brought hers to church and shared it among the brethern.Every one including the sis that paid for her cake tasted it and said it was good.
However.... When the sister that paid for her cake went home and tasted it she and her big sister apparently did not like it. So... Her big sister who also has a son had a birthday party for him of which i was not aware, and when asked why she did not ask me to do the cake she said it was because my cake did not taste good. When i heard this I felt so embarrassed that i wanted to cry . I feel sooo ashamed.
This morning a young lady asked me to do a double layerd chocolate Brownie cake for her. But I am sooo scared that she will not like it. Can any one who read this please get me a good recipe for this kind of cake.
PLEASE. I AM DESPARATE
Sounds like the sister who paid wants you to offer a refund - since you said everyone else liked the cake.
You said the one that paid ate the other free cake and liked it. Why would she not like the one she paid for if they were from the same recipe?? Sounds like maybe she is just mad that she had to pay for her cake. Did she know the other lady got hers for free?? Maybe se found out and is just mad. If everyone else liked the cake then you shouldn't worry. We can't please everyone. My sister does not like cake I thought well that's just because she has never tried one of my cakes so I made her taste mine, she still does not like cake. Oh well everyone else I know loves my cakes.
Did you taste the cake? Did you tell the paying sister that it was the same cake that she ate at church? I would also ask for honest feed back from other church members who tasted the cake. I tend to agree with TNTFundraiser; she may be wanting a refund (probably because one cake was a free surprise cake). She may have been offended that she paid for a cake and someone else got one free. Please don't let her comments ruin something you love to do.
What recipe did you use? I have used a lot and the very best IMO is the one on back of the hershey's cocoa can.
Sounds to me like she found out about the free cake and is a little peeved that she actually had to ~gasp~ pay for hers.
ok dont panic!
something alike hapened to me i know it feels horrible
so here is what i did:
i gave a sample of the same cake for free to the same person and to diferent persons to make sure that the cake was bad for every one
some times a person just doesnt like some flavor....that is bad luck..u cant do anything about it.
but u can figure out if this is the case...or really u made some mistake in the recipie..that happens too and we are humans and non perfects.
so...if the other people like the same cake is a proof is not your fault.
and u can give her a sample of a diferent cake, im sure she will like it and she will see that ur cakes are good.
I would not deliver a paid cake and a free cake at the same time to two people who know each other. That's asking for trouble. The problem probably was not your recipe at all, just the fact that one paid and one got it for free.

Ditto, ditto, ditto. Always bad to give free cake in the same circle where you sold one.

I agree with this poster.
I use the chocolate wasc recipe, I would really like to know what recipe you used if you get the chance to post it.
Here is mine, and everyone loves it. Its really moist and fantastic.
1 box chocolate cake mix
1 pack chocolate pudding
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour (sometimes I sub 1/4 cup cocoa)
1 cup water (sometimes I substitute a 1/4 cup coffee or torani chocolate syrup)
1 cup sour cream
1/4 cup oil
4 eggs
Actually, I did have one lady say she didnt like it. She said it was dry and tasteless and she said she threw it in the garbage and demanded a refund. Talk about embarrassed. BUT dont let it bring your confidence down. I did, for a second, but then I remembered all my customers who say its the best cake they've ever had...even people who have shopped around to my competition say its the best. Dont let it get to you, ok hon?
As far as a recipe for the cake you requested, I have no clue what that would be. Like a thick, fudgey cake I guess? I wouldnt mind a recipe like that myself.
Anyone ever make a cake out of brownie batter?? I wonder if that would be gross.
This is my "go to" favorite Chocolate cake recipe.....use VERY good quality chocolate and cocoa....not Hershey.

I think most of us grew up on Hershey's chocolate and cocoa and do think it's awesome.
I have tried many high-end chocolates and always go back to my fav: Hershey's.
I agree with patticakesnc and cakepro. The chocolate cake receipe on the back of the hershey's can is the best chocolate cake recipe i have tried. I think the other sister in the church was probably upset because her cake was not free and she just wanted to vent her disappointment.
i.m with cakepro.. nothing wrong with hersey's chocolate.. she has a great AMAZING CHOCOLATE CAKE recipe on this site.. if anyone needs a good chocolate cake recipe.. please try this one.. hth
I'm with dkelly... that epicurious cake is delicious. I use Ghirardelli cocoa... I prefer it to hershey's, but that's my palate. I don't like some higher end chocolates either (Callebaut is one that comes to mind). Using hershey's won't result in an awful tasting cake though so if that is your love... then by all means use it.
I'm thinking that if she's complaining and no one else is... it's about the money. And she liked the free cake to boot? Were they 100% the same? Fillings and all? If so... then I say there is no merit to her complaint. Does she know that both cakes came from the same exact batter? I'd let her know that.
Huh? Weeeeeeird. Ditto DKelly's recipe link. Threads have been started here just to say how absoflipping fantastic that recipe is.
Thanks for the support guys. Her sister also goes to my church and tasted the free one and liked it. And I did not tell her that i did it for free. I will gladly accept constructive criticism on my cakes but the way she behaved was not kool. I found a DARN GOOD CHOCOLATE CAKE recipe on this site and i think i'll give it a try. Pray for me! I tasted the cake and so did my husband. He said it was good and trust me, he is my biggest critique.

is it the ones that were posted above? i made sure to copy and paste them in to my files to try i have two teenage sons, one 16 and one just about to turn 18 in a week.. with those two bottomless pits and hubby i have a great critiquing crew lol..
I use Ghiradelli's as well. Personally for me, the hershey's has a "burnt" taste to it. And no, I've never burnt a Hershey's cake before. I just don't know any other way to describe it. But, once again, it just show's how tastebuds can vary & not everyone likes the same thing.
i am an all-out chocoholic.
that being said, I myself am not that thrilled with chocolate cake recipes, be they scratch or boxed they don't taste chocolatey. If I'm having chocolate, then I AM HAVING CHOCOLATE!!! so typically I opt for brownies.....
But....my absolute favorite chocolate cake is from Dom De Louise's book "eat this it'll make you feel better"
it's a doctored mix and boy is it good. I'll post it here in a jiffy have to get the book.
all right here you go it's called death by chocolate cake
4 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup oil
beat the above ingredients together in a large bowl until thoroughly mixed.
Add:
1 chocolate cake mix
1 small box of instant chocolate pudding mix
Beat until smooth
stir in:
1 12-oz. package of semisweet chocolate chips
Pour into cake pan and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
variation: replace 1/4 cup water with grand marnier
never done the variation
......hmmmm now that i read it sounds like chocolate wasc with chocolate chips, the chips make it sooooo much better and frost chocolate *drooling*
Okay, could someone post a link to Cakepro's chocolate cake recipe? I searched the recipes and can't seem to find it. Thanks in advance.
can i ask whats the point of adding choc pudding mixes (ive seen a couple of receipes with choc pud) to the cake mixture? is it to add moisture, flavour, make the cake more dense? ive never even eaten choc pudding so i dont know why its being added to the cakes
thanks
I love DH devil food cake...........its really good....but I agree when you add the wasc recipe thing to any cake its even better. I live near Hershey so I will opt out of thie debate hehehe
i'm one of the weird ppl.. then again i may be alone on this.. i don't really care for brownies. i love fudge, chocolate cake.. chocolate.. but not brownies... even *i* am not sure why.. if i have a choco fit and need a fix, if its the only chocolate thing around i'll indulge but.. it will usually be the last choice for me- now there have been exceptions to this some brownies i've had were Very good.
Bonnell, here you go. It's at the bottom:
