I want to do a holiday cake with a skating rink on it. What could I use that would look like ice?

a royal icing flooded piece, the shape of the rink with some pearl dust on the surface would look nice.

Here's a cute one...

ooooooooh, or if you could do a poured sugar/isomalt piece...that'd look sharp!

I agree with all4cake about the poured sugar or sugar glass is what I call it. You can find the instructions. Just google how to make sugar glass and I think you can add color to it. Just make a sheet of it however big you need it. HTH

That penguin cake is ADORABLE!! It makes me want to do one, although I am celebrating having no more cakes due through the end of the year. icon_biggrin.gif

color flow would give you a shiny white ice effect, not clear but most frozen pond are not. icon_smile.gif

Use a recipe for suckers (sugar & water boil to the hard crack stage). Pour into a metal baking pan any size you want which has been greased or place foil in the pan first and then grease. Pour in the hot syrup mixture and let cool. Remove and you'll have a piece of glass like candy which will look great for an ice rink. You can paint the backside with dusts and/or colors diluted if you want.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll try the poured sugar but keep the other ideas as a back up. You never know when the next cake disaster is around the corner.
