does royal icing made with meringue powder needs refrigeration? what is the shelf life of RI if left outside?

Does not need refridgeration. Does need to be covered with plastic wrap set directly on top of it and in a sealed container to keep it from starting to harden. I've kept mine for about 2 weeks. Don't know if it could go longer because i've always used it before then.
