String Of Pearl Mold

How far in advance can I make strings of pearls for a cake border? I was going to use 50/50 fond/gumpaste and was wondering if I make these 3-4 days ahead will I still be able to mold them around the base of my cake...or will they be too hard? Anyone else use these before or do you use craft pearls? Thanks icon_smile.gif

I've done them up to a week in advance and placed them on cake boards the same size as the cake will be, and transported them that way for assembly at the hall. Does that make sense? I'll give you an example, when the pix are back up, my towering inferno cake had a pearl base and for the 10 inch layer I put a 10 inch board on a 12 inch board and wrapped the pearls around the 10 inch board and let them dry. Then I put them around the cake with piping gel when I assembled it. Worked great! icon_biggrin.gif
