Adding Gumpaste To Rolled Buttercream?
Decorating By tigerhawk83 Updated 12 Dec 2009 , 12:38am by JanH
I am just starting to experiment with fondant and rolled buttercream. I have used Fondarific and love its texture, but I can't get it locally and really cannot justify the cost when I'm not selling, so I made up a batch of rolled buttercream - I like it a lot but it is not as pliable or stretchy as the fondant.
My question - if I add a little bit of gumpaste to the rolled buttercream, will that give it a little more workability and pliability - that is make it more like commercial fondant? Any other ideas? My only access to cake supplies locally is Hobby Lobby so I think I probably can only get dry gumpaste mix or Gum-Tex.
There are lots of fondant recipes in the CC recipes section that might be more comparable to commercial fondant than rolled buttercream. Have you seen them:
