I just had to share this story with all of you. I have been decorating cakes for a little over a year now. At first my husband only feigned interest, then he started helping me with structural issues, and the next thing I knew he was coloring & rolling fondant! He has become more & more involved with each cake. With that said I will tell my story-

We were working on a "Present" cake for my mother to give as a thank you gift. I also work full time in an entirely unrelated field. It was late at night and I couldn't whip the bow into submission so I called it a day & went to bed. I told my DH that I would finish it when I came home the next day. Well, about 3:30pm I received a picture text of a completed bow! I was thrilled; however, that is not where the story ends. When I got home from work & began to survey the bow in person I noticed that clipped to my sketch clipboard were three photos of cakes with bows. I turned to my DH & asked where he got the pictures & he looked at me very Chesire Catlike (as if to say, "Silly Girl, tricks are for kids") & stated matter-a-factly & Proudly, "Cake Central." I just had to laugh b/c honestly I think he really only hears the words coming out of my mouth about 70% of the time.

Aww, that is the cutest story! icon_smile.gif
My DH helped me with my son's tow truck cake with getting the shape right.
I'm not sure he'd roll fondant though! icon_lol.gif

My DH laughs about all the cake terms he knows. He was excited to help me with my army tank cake. Couldn't have done it without him.

My DH also gave me great advice on my army tank cake. He's great to bounce ideas off. Though, sometimes he doesn't get it! icon_smile.gif He told me that it's not a good idea to make a replica of something that is supposed to be salty into a cake (sweet) e.g. potato chips. Sooo wrong! I just WISH he would color and roll my fondant!!

That is so cool! My hubby is doing more than he used to. He's cutting parchment for pans, now to get him rolling fondant.

My SO doesn't have any interest other than eating cake but it's just as well he better not touch my stuff because...well..he doesn't a finesse bone in his body and he is VERY heavy handed and doesn't understand structure or anything like that...I really do miss a man that does...Sometimes (often) I feel like I am raising a child and it gets old and he's 40. I an envious of you!

I call him my Executive Sous Chef. I am working on getting the picture off of the camera & onto the computer. I promise I will post it here when I finally get around to it.

And yes, he is very sweet & absolutely helpful, I couldn't do it without it! I am also open to bids to rent him out. icon_lol.gif

That is just wonderful to have a husband to take an interest in your cake decorating and participate willingly. Kuddos to you dear.

Okay, here is the bow my sweet DH made. It is not as big & fluffy as I would have liked; however, I didn't have to make it so I'm not complainin'. I was just thrilled that he was willing to give it a try. I think it's pretty darn good for his first bow and he made it w/ no instructions- just looking at the photos here on CC.

I just realized that we left the tissue (he actually put it there) in it for the picture. I promise that it stayed fluffed when I removed the tissue. icon_lol.gif

Mine doesn't help out in the kitchen, but he does know that when I'm working on stuff to STAY OUT! That way I don't have to worry about my limited counter space. He is a very good sounding board. He really helped me out on the mouse/cheese cake I did. He also is a very good complimenter.

My wonderful hubby is also becoming more involved in the cake business and calls himself the "cake engineer" and often uses the pronoun "we" when discussing cakes. Too cute!! He's also a great sounding board. We also practice law together full-time (just the two of us), but it still seems we don't have enough time together icon_smile.gif)

Too funny! My DH also says "we." "We" have also started talking about starting a cake business together.

My sweet DH also cleans up my messes! I love him more for that than coloring & rolling the fondant. icon_lol.gif

It really is great to know that most of us have such super support from our roommates! Where would we be without them?! thumbs_up.gif
