My turn to plead for help!
I've been asked to make a cake for the 50th anniversary of an antiques-collecting group. It has to have something to do with antiques, be half chocolate and half yellow and feed about 50 people. Other than that, I have free rein.
The person who asked me to do it mentioned antique shoes (I think she collects them,) but I was thinking perhaps something with a grandfather clock and the words "As time goes by" or so forth. I'm not stuck on the idea, however, and I don't really any great ideas how to do the clock!
i like the shoes (or perhaps high lace-up boots) idea -- very sculptural.
do you know if the group has a focus in their collecting? clothing? furniture? jewelry? perhaps they're fans of antiques roadshow? ooo, there's an idea: how about a cake shaped like an old trunk, with the lid propped open, and a few choice pieces (molded out of fondant) spilling out: a pocketwatch (made silver with lustre dust), a cameo brooch, a pair of white ladies' button gloves, a piece of blue-and-white china, an old-fashioned teddy bear, etc.
