Hello I was hoping you could help me find an inexpensive tested gingerbread recipe. I made gingerbread before and it called for spices, brown sugar and molasses but I was thinking maybe someone had a cheaper recipe, since I will be making 40 small gingerbread houses I need to spend a little less.

Thanks a bunch

You can substitute dark corn syrup for the molasses - won't be quite the same taste wise but will look fine and should be cheaper. I have also used half molasses and half corn syrup. I have a recipe at home that calls for regular granulated sugar rather than brown sugar that I have used for gingerbread house construction - I will post it for you later today when I get off work icon_razz.gif

Try this one - it is from Mr Food (on TV) - you know the drill; cream the shortening and sugar, add eggs and and molasses then add the dry ingredients.

5 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup molasses
2 eggs
