How Long Does Gumpaste Last????

ive made figures to put on a cake and ive been asked how long until they are not edible and how long will they keep as a keepsake???
they know that gumpaste isn't tasty! but ive no idea what the answers are!

does gumpaste go off after a month after being modelled....does it go moldy after a few months!????

help!

Well... they are not yummy to begin with - but not horrible either. If they have wire or toothpicks in them for support I'd caution anyone about eating them. As for keepsakes, I've had some for two years and they have not gone bad --fade slightly, yes. Once they dry, they really dry. Keep them under glass (if possible) and out of direct sunlight and they will last a long time.
