Yea its so tru, they hardly EVER talk about the flavors of the cake on AOC. Iv looked up theyre flavorsonline because I was curious. I think iv only seen about 2 or so episides where they say anythign about the cake and one was very recent. It was the cake for OceanSpray and they only talked about it because they had to come up with a custom cranberry cake. THe other one was when they were talking about one flavor that is evereyones favorite at the bakery, i cant remember what it was.

ANOTHER Thing......lol (sorry)

A girl I went to culinary school with works at CCC. I didnt have classes with her but when i was in my restaurant class she was in there working as an intern. She was leaving to move to Blatimore a few weeks after I got out of that class. I actaully found it very funny because she was NOTHING like anybody you see on the show. She was pretty serious, not much of a jokster like the rest of them. She was also much older. I kept wondering how she would fit in over there. She has been working there since March so I keep looking to see if Id see her in the background or something but I havent.

She had submitted her resume to them over a year earlier and they contacted her and she flew out there to do a stauge. I guess they liked her and hired her on. One thing I found funny though is I saw her work and she didnt do fondant cakes or stuff I really think of as CCC style. She actaully did more tradiational cakes like some of the ones you see on Cake Boss. Just interesting.

They are very "laid back " I saw a few episodes in the beginning where Duff showed the kitchen and lots of baked cakes and talked about recipes and that taste is very important... took a bite and then meandered over to start touching some figures the girls were working on. Somewhere back in the corner is the guy who bakes cakes and scrubs pots. I think that is where Duff said a new person starts at Charm City Cakes. Oh CCC

Ha ha I saw the CCC before ad it didn't register-Doh I was like, "What Buddy making Cupcake cakes...?" icon_confused.gif
icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Oh so you want to see Buddy at CCC and Duff at Carlos' That would be interesting wouldn't it!

Like them both.... but had to vote for Buddy.

There are too many "sight seeing trips" at CCC. I watch to see cakes, not field trips.

I have to say I'm a Duff fan. Mainly because of the attitudes of the workers there. I do love Buddy's cakes too and watch the show each week but his yelling, everyone's yelling and his mean spirited "joke" are just awful. I'm not a yeller, not from a family of yellers and not a fan of people being mean and thinking it's funny...so he loses me there. If I was working for him and he ever pulled something like that not only would I quit but I'd report him to the labor board. Not funny. But he's an amazing artist and I love to see what he comes up with as much as I love to see what Duff and Co come up with. "Cake Porn" yup, that covers it! LOL!

Hold Up! Hold up .... wait!!! I learn a lot from Duff ---- like how to ...... icon_confused.gif
Oh yes .... carve styrofoam .... hahaha, and, how to be nice to Kate and 8, and how to ..... park my bike in my bakery ....... hehehhe icon_biggrin.gif

Buddy, I learnt some too .... like how to pipe and carve cake and decorate, and .... have fun doing it .....
Buddy is more charismatic - and, a brighter personality. And, he actually works with food and not inedibles. Oh, and he shares his knowledge too

Buttom line is this, I can maybe bake a better cake ... you think? But! I maybe certainly can't decorate better ... you think? Maybe better than Duff....? Maybe not? I don't know.

If Buddy was to go spend a week at CCC I am sorry for them. I can hear him saying ...... "What do you all work with there? Foam? Are you serious? Do you all even bake? I can't believe it!" Hehehe

I sure wish I had someone to bankroll a bakery for me.... but I won't player hate. He does what he does, and it must be something good he does that has his business open. Or maybe he just has a lot of friends? Fat ones? hehehe

Love you all - you all are too funny

I love both of them. They have different styles and personalities. Buddy seems a little more personable and loveable to me, but seriously, I could do without the rest of his family and all of the yelling.

They both create some amazing cakes / art.

I love how Buddy shares some tricks and actually explains how he makes some of the things. On Ace of Cakes we have to learn on our own, most of the time. But then for "normal" viewers I can see why they think Duff is more "cool" (plus no annoying sisters...)

As someone who lives and works in Hoboken (where the Cake Boss bakery is located) I may be biased but I'm with Buddy all the way. Unlike Ace of Cakes (which I started watching long before Cake Boss was on the air and also like!), Buddy's place is a more real, public-friendly family run community establishment with a long history. Every morning the place is packed with commuters, locals, etc getting a morning cup of coffee/donut/pastry as well as people there ordering those fabulous cakes. All the "cast" can be seen working as they have been for years. They were there long before the show and they will be there long after the show. To me, it is a more real bakery staffed by ordinary people (mainly family and locals...yes we do have Jersey accents here...to "Lala" who called them "horrible"...c'mon! That's mean!) where everyone can go and enjoy a bit of Buddy's baking (though his fancy cakes certainly are pricey, there are so many other great affordable and gorgeous stock cakes and bakery items for sale to enjoy!!). True, a lot of the events on the show are probably staged but hey, it IS TV afterall!

And GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR why isn't there a video of Buddy on the voting site??

They are both too different. I like Buddy because he uses more buttercream, which I personally think is more difficult to pull off.

I like Duff because he is cool and has way to much fun!

For me - Buddy, definitely Buddy. I generally don't learn much from Duff but I usually learn something with Buddy. I also really enjoy Buddy's show for entertainment value. I think the family dynamics may sometimes be exaggerated but they are real, while Duff and his staff are too chilled and laid back to be entertaining. So definitely Buddy. And I'm also biased because Buddy runs a full scale bakery with pastries and cookies and other confectioneries in addition to specialty cakes, which takes a lot of skill and definitely adds to stress levels. Could do without Mary though.

I agree with all of this. I stopped watching AOC for this very reason. It was becoming boring to watch him shape styrofoam, and add so much wood to his cakes. I can understand using the inedibles for support, like what Buddy did with the Alligator cake, but it seems like Duff is using the inedibles for a lot more than just support.

For me, it's Buddy all the way.

buddy gets my vote any day.

Although i watch both shows, i'm more impressed with buddy because he is running a real bakery that is open to the public which adds a bit more stress maybe buddy needs to borrow mary alice for a couple of weeks to help get the stress level down a bit.

I really want to like Cake Boss, I really do. I am up for new cake shows if they are good. But I can't get past the FAKE FAKE FAKE scripted feel of the show. It drives me up the wall and I can't watch it.

Duff, definitely. Love the dry humor - the staff is all so likeable which makes the show much more enjoyable to watch. Love Buddy's cakes but I just can't stand listening to all of the yelling...plus it does all seem scripted.

I know a lot of you guys love the guy(Duff) I personally think his kitchen/work area is a health hazard with all of that sawdust flying around. I think he could win me over though if he ever decided to use 100% cake or at least 100% edible ingredients....he's definitely got artistic talent.

What I posted is public knowledge. Duff was pastry Chef at the French Laundry. He couldn't handle the stress, never showed up the next day for work the next day. Then he ran back to Daddy crying with his hand out. Pops bankrolled the cake place, now he's famous. His Dad owns a chain of gyms in the Baltimore area.

Mike

I'm not surprised by this at all.

I can't watch CB any more. Too loud. I need quiet in my life. Cake should be calming. I even make my DH and DD watch loud shows in the basement, because I can't stand it. So it's not just Buddy that I have tuned-out! And CCC makes some VERY cool cakes to copy! You can choose to put all cake or all foam on your own.

Unlike Buddy who inherited his from his father. Either way, both came to where they are via family.

I like Duff because he's so laid back. I could work for him. And his staff really seem to enjoy being there, and aren't afraid of him. He's self-depricating and laughs at himself.

I like Buddy because I have learned quite a bit from him. BUT, I don't care for the yelling, finger-pointing/blaming for mistakes (it wasn't Stretch's fault the back of the shopping bag cake fell, it was the fault of the person who put it together ... and s**t happens), and the sense of fakery in the production (the cake 'slipped' off the board while they carried it downstairs - right after one guy tipped the board towards the other one who was already 1/2 way down said stairs). And the non-family staff seem afraid to speak unless spoken to. I could not work in this setting.

Duff's bakery is closed to the public because it's a custom cake bakery ONLY. Buddy's is a full service bakery, as it has always been.

I watch both shows for different reasons. I like Duff's personality, but I hate all the long hair flopping around in the kitchen and how they roll fondant while touching their face or sweeping their hair back.

I like buddy's show. He gives a lot of good advice. He always comes across so arrogant on the Food Network challenges that it is comical. I can't stand his loud drama queen sister though. She drives me nuts.

Buddy may be loud but he actually knows how to bake and decorate the cakes, I've learned a lot from his comments and points on the show. Duff never bakes and rarely decorates cakes and when he does they don't look as amazing as the ones his staff makes, he's a cool guy and his staff is great but.......just saying!

Watching Buddy is like scraping your nails on the chalk board....ouch. I have a hard time listening to him yelling all the time and I don't like how smug he can be, he seems to have to be at center stage when he delivers a cake. I agree with the bunny - it was creepy. And his sisters...ugh!!
I think Jeff from AOC is more talented then Duff but I like Duff's laid back charm. I also like how he treats his staff and the open area they work, they seem to help each other so it's more team atmosphere.
I think both guys got where they are with help from the family, either financial or given, either way they are luck to have the businesses they do and must be doing something right. And I agree with the hair nets, but that's for both shows, I guess they just don't look cool for T.V.
I watch both because I like my cake porn too, any cake or food show seems to be my addiction icon_smile.gif so I will still watch them and learn where I can
