Personally, I think this is strange request for a cake, but a woman wants 2 mushrooms. I'm thinking that I will stack 3 or so 4" cakes for the stem, then top that with a wondermold (like you use for the doll cakes). I'm planning to put the top part on it's own board since it will be bigger than the stem, then doweling all the way through. Also, I will probably have to carve the top a bit to get a rounder shape.

Please let me know if there is a better way to do this, or if you have any tips related to mushroom making.

Thanks!

how much cake does she need??? If she doesnt need a lot I'd just use rice krispies for the tops.........otherwise make sure you have a nice sturdy board under the top and you can always cover the underside that shows from the bottom under the mushroom with some dark brown fondant and put the ridges in it.

The RKT tops are a great idea, since I am concerned about the cakes being top-heavy. Thanks to everyone for the input!
