When I started I baked the cake the one day and the next day I decorated it and off it went. Now sometimes I do not have enough time to bake all the cakes on one day. What do you do, do you put it in the fridge or freezer? And after you decorated it, especially fondant what do you do with the cake? Sometimes it is for a christening that is only the Sunday and they get the cake from me at Friday, what do I advise them to do with the cake until Sunday, because it is summer now and sometimes really warm? How long can a cake covered in fondant stay fresh outside the fridge?
I use moistening syrup (sometimes called simple syrup). It just helps keep the cake moist. It's basically sugar and water that comes to a boil. Then when it cools you add any flavor that you want to it. It makes the cake taste extra yummy though.
