Would appreciate suggestions, ideas, hints, tips, etc.

I'm a new cake decorator - loving it! As I'm trying to get into more elaborate designs, the bane of my existence is my CAKE!

I watch Cake Boss, Ace, etc..and these guys literally flip, flop and throw these cakes across the room and they don't crack or break - I can't even move mine on the board without it falling apart!!!!!!

WHAT am i doing wrong??? WHAT kind of cake should I use? PLEASE, I greatly appreciate any advice. I promised a 3 tiered wedding cake for a friend in a few months and I need some help to pull it off!

Recipes? Suggestions? Links?
