How Thick Do You Roll Out Your Cookie Dough?

when making sugar cookies, how thick do you roll out your dough?

If they are going to be stickless, I lay two dowel rods on each side of the dough and roll my rolling pin on top of those so the cookies are the thickness of the dowel rod.

If I'm going to insert same dowel rods into the cookie, they obviously have to be thicker, so I roll out the thickness of a bigger dowel rod.

For decorated cookies, I roll them out about 1/4 inch. However, if I'm going to insert a stick in them, then I roll them thicker (I guess about 3/8").

1/4" is what i like (stickless).

1/4 inch stickless and 1/2 inch with sticks.
