Can you use the same recipes for cupcakes for cakes? If the answer is no, why not?

Amber, I'm fairly new here, but I've always use my cake recipes on ccs. Just reduce the baking time... Good luck,

Well I can't say for sure exactly why, but for some reason some of my cake recipes fail miserably when I try to make cupcakes out of them. I don't know if it has something to do with surface-to-mass ratio or what, but I've found a few recipes that just don't transfer well from cakes to cupcakes.

If anyone knows the reason for this I'd love to know why.

What about cupcake recipes? Can they be put in a cake pan and made into larger cakes?
