11:30: The phone rings. " Hello, I'm calling to see if my cake is ready!"

"Oh yes... the cake for Noah, right?"

"No, the cake for Zach and Ben!"

"Oh my God... I forgot to make your cake!"

"WHAT???!!!"

"I'm so sorry!!!! What time is your party?" Don't worry I'll
make it now!!!

"I'm leaving here at 1:00...the party is at 2:00!"

"Don't worry...I'll deliver it!!!"

"It's in Forest Hill...45 minutes away!"

"What time are you serving the cake, 3:00?..."Don't worry...I'll
be there, I swear!!!

11:45 The cake is in the oven...
Make icing...pace, pace, pace...

12:30 The cake is out of the oven...Cooling...pace, pace, pace!!!
12:45 We put the cake outside... pace, pace, pace!!!
1:00 We blow a fan on the cake... pace, pace, pace!!!!
1:15 "Nancy, you have to sit down!!!"
"I can't..." Pace, pace, pace!!!
1:25 The cake is cool!!! Start decorating... my hands are shaking
like a leaf!!
1:51 We're in the car. "Do you have the map?" "Yes" Do you know
where we're going?!! YES!!!

2:05...2:10...2:15: Check my watch...we're almost there!!!

2:25 "Oh you're early!!!"

2:26 "NO CHARGE!!!"

Great save!!!!!! I don't know how you managed!


I'm totally waiting for that to happen...the closest I got was this week when a lady called me in the parking lot outside my house wanting to pick up her cake. It was done, but not boxed or photographed because I had it in my mind she was picking up the next day. I told her "Um I had you down for tomorrow, so give me ten minutes." Looked at my schedule...Nope....she was down for TODAY. Had to apologize profusely for that one! At least the cake was done though. *Phew*

Been there, done that! I had to take a couple of hours of vacation time to get the cake done so even though it was done on time and paid for I actually lost money. I'm way better now, but that's the sort of thing that's bound to happen to us with our crazy busy lives.

THis is why I tell my brides to always confirm with all of their vendors at least 3 days prior.

Happened to me. Bride calls on Thursday to confirm her wedding cake. My open-mouth-before-engaging-brain response? "What cake?" icon_eek.gif

Bride goes into a panic, and I tell her, "Darlin' calm down. I"m in the van and don't have your file in front of me. Give me 5 minutes to get to the shop and I'll call you back."

Yep, there it was. Paid in full and everything! It was a simple 3-tier with ribbon and fondant daisies, so no biggie getting it done.

But I still have nightmares of "what if she hadn't called to confirm!" icon_surprised.gif

Gah! It's like that dream where you go to class, realize it's the day of the final and you've not attended any lectures or done any reading. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. I'm SO impressed with your response -- I think I'd have just passed out cold.

your response and grace under pressure is amazing!! you turned what could have been a horrible situation into one where the customer may recommend you to others because of the great lengths that you went to in order to make sure she got what she ordered!

Phew!!!Nice save thumbs_up.gif ! But things like this make some customers feel like we can whip out a cake for them at the click of their fingers icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif !!!
