has anyone ever heard of a confectioners glaze? I saw it on a video that was brushed on figures made of fondant and made it shiny. I am assuming it dries so you can handle it.

It's probably close to the edible varnish. There is a recipe posted in CC for the varnish and it is easy to make. It gives a really nice finish.
