I'm putting red ribbon around the bottom of 3 tiers, covered with buttercream. Any ideas how to stop the ribbon from soaking up all the oil? It's discoloring the ribbon. I just tried doubling the ribbon with double-sided tape....didn't work.

You can either line the back of the ribbon with tape or wax paper, or place a strip of parchment/wax paper around the cake first then lay the ribbon over it. (cut the paper the same width of the ribbon.)
