I am going to make my first purse cake this week and intend to to use a sheet cake and cut and stack it. My question is if I have four layers and use dowls will i need cake cards in between the layers as well, or will the dowls provive enough stability....i am planning to use a dense cake also.

Dowels dont really provide stability- they're more of an anchor to keep your cake from sliding all over the place. I dowel every 4" (Which is 4 layers for me- 2- 2" cakes torted and filled).
