I used one of the buttercream recipes from here ( the one with dream whip, indydebis, on my cupcakes. I let them sit overnight after I frosted. This morning I tried to smooth but it just crumbled.

Please help

I believe Indy's recipe is a crusting buttercream. If you waited overnight to smooth, it would be too long and too crusted. It only needs to crust a short time before you smooth.

yeah, you need to let it sit for about 5 minutes (just until you can touch it with your fingertip and it doesn't stick to your finger) After that you can smooth with the viva towels or the paint roller, but forget about using a spatula, won't work!
