I Want To Alter This Recipe, Need Icing Ideas

I found this recipe on Allrecipes and it looks like it has potential (for cupcakes) but I need a more stable icing for transit and small amounts of time without refrigeration. American buttercream (my typical icing) would be too sweet and not delicate enough, I think, but I'm afraid that a meringue type icing might be too rich for an already rich cupcake...any thoughts?

* 1 (18.25 ounce) package moist white cake mix
* 1 teaspoon instant coffee powder
* 1/4 cup coffee
* 1 tablespoon coffee flavored liqueur
* 1 (8 ounce) container mascarpone cheese
* 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
* 2 tablespoons coffee flavored liqueur
* 2 cups heavy cream
* 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
* 2 tablespoons coffee flavored liqueur
* 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
* 1 (1 ounce) square semisweet chocolate

Everyone's tastes are so different. I would use b'cream on it w/some of the cheese mixed into it.
Of course, I hate coffee so I would not like this recipe at all icon_smile.gif Each to his own.

Actually, I think espresso flavored IMBC would go well with these. I use instant-espresso powder and just enough hot water to make a very thick paste and blend that into the BC. Sorry, can't give amounts as I do it to taste.
