Hello,

I'm attempting to make my first football helmet and followed KittisKakes tutorial (which was great) for the mask guard for the front of the cake. I was having a bit of a problem finding an 8 in diameter pitcher and used an 8in deep cake pan.....Well my gumpaste was drying out pretty quickly when I was working on it so I did the best I could. Now that it's dry, I have found that the mask is almost an inch wider than both sides of my 8 in round cake.....I haven't iced it yet....I just placed them together to check the size. Can I just heavily frost it and then put a fondant layer on top before I insert the two posts on each side of the cake? or will it not hold up well with that much buttercream under the fondant layer?

I hope that makes sense...I just went back and read it and it sounds a bit confusing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Amy

I took a picture and I'm trying to figure out how to resize it so I can post it for you all to see.
