I am delivering a cake today....it's 3 tiers but I'm delivering it unstacked and will put it together when I get there. Should I put the dowels in each tier now or when I get there? Will it make a difference either way?

Hi, I would insert the dowels as soon as you ice them with Buttercream or fondant. When I stack cakes I don't insert the dowels all the way through. I leave few inches above and put the tier on the dowels so the weight of the cake push the dowels in. icon_smile.gif

I'd do it before.

I do the dowels as soon as I ice of cover the cakes, but I do like the idea of leaving the dowels above the surface and letting the next layer settle the cake, thanks bashini I'll try that.
