I'm no pro, but I did a 6 inch red velvet cake with cream cheese icing filling and crumb coat, then covered with homemade MMF.
The cake turned out wonderfully, and everyone enjoyed it.
It also stayed out for a day before it was picked up and consumed.
I wonder if people warn against this since you can't refrigerate the cream cheese filled cake once its been covered in fondant?
In my opinion there is enough sugar in the icing to keep it from harming anyone.
But again I'm no expert!

See this thread...

My fondant broke down on cream cheese icing, but someone else posting a recipe that would work. You can see how horrible my cake looked...

thank you both so much for your responses! I knew i remembered seeing this thread but the search feature is a pain for me, i have to re-search every time i view a result because it does "page can't be displayed". i absolutely love the fall themed cake and have one to do for a man's birthday friday and i may have to "borrow" your cake design - it is gorgeous!!!!
