Well now that that fiasco is over with I am looking to improve my skills so it doesn't take quite so long to make the darn cake.

Are there any tricks to making MMF? I can't believe how gooey it is and how long it takes to get it to form into a kneadable dough. Someone posted yesterday that they only have to use 1lb of powdered sugar. . I used almost 2lbs!!!! And what a mess!! I like it cause it tastes better than the store bought fondant but if I don't get this down pat soon I may have to switch. (never actually tasted the store bought fondant, but I've heard it's not very good??).

Anyway, just wondering if there are any tricks or something I am doing wrong?

Ok... it shoild take 2 pounds of sugar not one unless you only do half.

16 oz of miniature marshmallows
2 T of liquid (I do 1 of water and 1 vanilla)
2 pounds of powder sugar

Grease a microwave bowl, heat proof spatula, work surface and hands
Melt marshmallows and liquid in 30 second increments until completely melted
Pour out powder sugar onto greased work surface and make a well in the center.
Pour melted marshmallows into well
Grease hands and begin to knead the marshmallows
Knead until the fondant will no longer accept sugar. This should only take about 10 minutes from start to finish
Put fondant into a bag and seal. Let it rest over night

The 16 ounces is very important. You may have to use a bag and a half to get this amount. Good luck

I also had lots of problem with making MMF at first until I found this video and it helped me out a lot.

the only thing that I did was I made sure I greased everything very well and when you put the powder sugar in the bowl save about a cup for the kneading part. that way I know that I didn't go over 2lb of powder sugar. so when you knead all the sugar into the MMF you know it's done and ready for resting it over night.

hope this helps you
