I am new to doing cakes and I've been using cake cental as my muse and teacher (thanks to you all btw!) and I came across a cake by Kaz79 and I think I might attempt my own version. My question is on the top layer how do you acomplish that look and support the cake? Is there a cake board under there? Because in the past on stacked cakes I've used a cake board but covered it up with iceing but a cake board just seems to thick to accomplish that look. I am also guessing that there are dowls in the balls to support it? I would be greatful for any help or tips you guys can offer!

You can always PM the person who posted the cake for more info on how s/he made the cake.
