Can anyone tell me which is the best buttercream to use? The recipes are similar, but what are the strenghts or weaknesses for each?

Between those two I don't think there is a best. The recipes can very greatly. It's all about which technique you prefer. I prefer IMBC. I don't want to stand over a bowl, and hand whisk LOL. It's personal to which you choose.
I 100% agree with Mike.I have piped roses and borders with the IMBC.You should try both and see what you think.
