Hi all, could someone please explain wire gauges to me.
Am I right in thinking that the bigger the number the smaller (thinner) the wire? And the small number = thick wire???
Doesn't really seem to make sense.
So I have it completely wrong?

Yes, you're right. The bigger the number, the thinner the wire. I think the reason it's done that way is that wire is sized by how many wires will fit into a certain space, so the bigger the wire, the less wires would fit, that's why they have a lower number.
