Help please! I am brand new to cakes/decorating and am teaching myself. Yesterday I was making a sign out of gumpaste and I took some black powder (don't know the brand of the top of my head) and mixed it with vodka (Gordon's) and it turned green/black. Then I decided to use black gel (Wilton)and that also had a green cast when mixed. I finally decided to just use the gel straight from the bottle but for future reference, did I do something wrong? Wrong brands? I apologize if this has already been discussed.

The black coloring does have a greenish cast to it, but you need enough straight coloring to the gumpaste/fondant to make it the black you are wanting. Diluting it with alcohol will decrease the concentration of the the coloring. It's scary how much black you need to make black. icon_smile.gif
